In commemoration of Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Anniversary, New Porgera Limited (NPL) is donating K100,000 to the National Museum & Art Gallery (NMAG).
The presentation was made by NPL Country Manager Karo Maha, following a meeting with NMAG Executives, as well as Friends of the Museum (FoM), a not-for-profit organization assisting the NMAG in the improvement of its Port Moresby facilities.
“As the owner of the Porgera mine, NPL recognizes, respects and honors the vast cultures and traditions and the history of our nation.
We are immensely proud to support the important work that the National Museum does in the preservation and promotion of the rich culture and history of our diverse nation.
Particularly during independence celebrations, with the country’s rich culture on show across the country, we felt the need to give something back, through this assistance to this important organization.
We trust this will go a long way in their efforts to preserve and promote PNG’s rich culture and history, for the benefit of future generations. Our identity unifies Papua New Guinea and differentiates us from all other nations.
We also take this opportunity to wish Papua New Guinea a Happy Independence Anniversary.
50 years as an independent democratic nation is a testament to the resilience of our nation, and our people.
Happy 50th Independence Anniversary PNG.”
In accepting the support from NPL, NMAG Board of Trustee President Terence Moka said “This contribution will directly assist us in continuing our work in conservation, education, exhibitions, and cultural programs at a time when the eyes of the world are upon Papua New Guinea as we celebrate 50 years of Independence.”
FoM Chair, Sylvia Pascoe added “This initial investment will position New Porgera as the inaugural Champion Sponsor of the FoM’s “Legacy Legends”, a prestigious title reserved for those whose support helps lay the groundwork for long term cultural sustainability. As our first Champion, New Porgera will be permanently recognised across our major public campaigns, gala fundraising events, publications and digital platforms.”
